Halo 5 Blue Team Opening Cinematic
Good morning ladies, gentleman and small annoying mammals those lovely guys at 343 and Microsoft have finally dropped the Cinematic for the Opening Halo 5 mission entitled blue team. The trailer takes place whilst the Chief and Blue team are still very much a part of the UNSC and are tasked to retake the ONI Research Station Argent Moon which is crawling with Covenant troops.
Interestingly at the beginning of the Trailer Fred and Kelly are discussing the Chiefs mental state and how he is pursuing mission after mission with no respite for the team. It could be a result of him trying to find Cortana or just trying to keep busy but it could also hint at a deeper emotional story for the Chief. Halo 4 laid the foundations for the Chief to become more human than the empty vessel Bungie first designed. The loss of Cortana would seemingly leave a giant narrative hole that having 3 AI team members probably won’t be able to fill. During the previous Halo games Cortana would always present providing support to the chief but also to prevent it going quiet and providing a link a sort of Anchor to the wider narrative. I’m not sure how that can be filled it the Chief remains a largely silent character.
With all the changes we’re seeing i wouldn’t be at all surprised if these early hints towards the Chiefs mental state aren’t carried into the full game. A fractured, desperate Chief would be an interesting angle and in direct contrast to the calculated Spartan Locke.
Back to the Cinematic and it’s a really cracker showing the approach to the Research Station and Blue team shooting in the Windows and disposing of the Covenant inside in typical badass style using thrusters to hold position whilst the Covenant are sucked out into space.
